What Is a Safari Tour
A safari tour is a trip packed with adventure, where family and friends take a tour through Africa’s national parks & Wildlife to see animals such as lions, elephants giraffes, and other magnificent creatures. But here’s the catch—They’re not in cages. They’re up and active, lying right on the side of the road as you drive past close enough almost to touch them!
At Hyrax Safaris, we typically take our customers in a jeep or 4×4 vehicle with an English-speaking guide who helps you spot animals safely.
It’s like a real-life version of The Lion King, minus the singing warthog (usually).
What To Expect in a Safari Tour
On a safari tour, you should expect a mix of awe, dust, and “oh my gosh is that a lion?!” moments. Here’s what to realistically expect:
Wildlife Encounters
- You’ll (hopefully) see The Big Five: Lions, elephants, buffalos, leopards, and rhinos.
- Also expect to see animals such as zebras, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, antelopes, monkeys, and a lot of birds.
Game Drives
- We’ll take you out when the animals are most active.
- You’ll ride in an open or enclosed 4×4 vehicle with a local guide and/or tracker.
- The ride can get bumpy, windy, and dusty—but it’s worth it when you lock eyes with a cheetah.
Breathtaking Scenery
- Your eyes will thank you later. You’ll see sights such as savannahs, acacia trees, dramatic sunsets, and the kind of views that make you question why you ever lived in a city.
Unique Lodging
- From luxury lodges with infinity pools to tented camps where you hear hyenas at night. We’ve got a bit of everything. Whatever suits you best.
Roughing It, But Classy
- No Wi-Fi in the wild, so expect a digital detox.
- Bring neutral clothes (no bright colours), bring sunscreen, bug spray, binoculars, and a hat.
- We’ll be waking you up early, taking you on long drives, and shaking the occasional bug out your shoe.
Silence and Respect
- It’s not like a theme park. You whisper, you stay seated, and you listen to your guide. The animals don’t care about your TikTok.
- Also: don’t ever get out of the vehicle unless told. You’re tasty.
Are Safari Tours Safe?
Of course, they are! At Hyrax Safaris, we take extra care to make sure you’re always accompanied by a trained, alert guard. The animals on these tours are used to the commotion, so random attacks are incredibly rare, almost non-existent.
As long as you listen to your guide, follow instructions, and bring suncream—The worst you’ll come out with is dirty fingernails and a numb bum.
