Amboseli National Park is located in the southern part of Kenya near the Kenya–Tanzania border. The name Amboseli was coined from a Masai word which means ‘salty dust place’. Time taken from Nairobi is approximately 4 hours via road & 45 minutes via flight. Amboseli National Park is well known for its great views of Mount Kilimanjaro and is also home to many elephants. Other wildlife seen in Amboseli includes lions, giraffes, cheetahs, and buffalos. It is also home to a variety of birds, which makes it a good destination for bird watchers. Lake Nakuru National Park is located in Nakuru County around Lake Nakuru.

Time taken from Nairobi is approximately 3 hours via road. Lake Nakuru National Park is well known for its large number of birds, especially the pink flamingos, which makes it a favorable destination for bird watchers.

It is also home to different wildlife like lions, cheetahs, leopards, buffalos, endangered black and white rhinos, and giraffes.

Time taken from Nairobi is approximately 4 hours by road. Aberdare National Park is known for its mountain scenery, waterfalls, and different kinds of wildlife like elephants, leopards, and mountain bongos.

It is also an ideal place for bird watchers because it has different varieties of birds. Aberdare National Park is also an ideal place for hiking, where one is able to enjoy the beautiful views of the park. Other activities that can be done in Aberdare include fishing, horse riding, and camping.

Samburu National Reserve

Samburu National Reserve is located in the northern part of Kenya along the Ewaso Ng’iro River.

It takes approximately 5–6 hours from Nairobi to Samburu National Reserve by road and about 1’5 hours via air. Samburu National Reserve is known for its unique species of animals like the Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, Beisa oryx, and gerenuk. There are also large elephant herds and a wide variety of birds, making it an ideal destination for bird watchers. Some of the activities in Samburu National Reserve include game drives, bird watching, guided walks, and cultural visits with the people of Samburu.

Hell’s Gate National Park

Hell’s Gate National Park is located along the Great Rift Valley.

It is approximately two hours from Nairobi. Hell’s Gate National Park is known for its scenic landscape views of high cliffs and deep gorges. There are geothermal features like hot springs, steam vents, and geysers. Hell’s Gate is also home to different wildlife species like zebras, giraffes, buffalos, raptors including Verreaux’s eagle (often seen hovering above the cliffs), and antelopes.

Hell’s Gate has over 100 species of birds, including vultures, eagles, and hornbills. It is one of the few parks where visitors can explore on foot and also by cycling while enjoying the beautiful views of the park.

Tsavo National Park

Tsavo National Park is located in the southeastern part of Kenya. It is divided into two:
Tsavo East and Tsavo West.

From Nairobi, it takes approximately 3 hours to reach Tsavo West by road and 5–6 hours to reach Tsavo East by road, or approximately 50 minutes by air.

Tsavo National Park is well known for its large elephant herds and also the famous maneating lions. Tsavo is also home to different wild animals like buffalos, zebras, hippos, and giraffes. Some of the activities that can be done in Tsavo National Park include game drives, bush walks, visiting Mzima Springs, and hippo viewing.

Meru National Park is located in the eastern part of Kenya near Mount Kenya. It is approximately 7 hours from Nairobi by road and about 1 hour by air.
