6 Day Scenic Chogoria Down Sirimon Route

Pick up at your hotel/airport. Later, depart from Nairobi at 0800hrs, driving through agricultural country up to Chogoria town for lunch. After lunch, we take 4×4 and drive up to the edge of the bamboo forest where we start our trekking through the dense bamboo forest for a distance of 10 km to the Mt Kenya Bandas (31m)

After breakfast and sorting of porter loads, we’ll set off up the mountain at a nice and easy pace. This day offers a wonderful range of vision. A slightly longer walk via Lake Ellis gives scenic views of Mugi, Ithanguni and the Giants Billiards Table, whilst if we follow the river near road head, upstream for about 3 km, the foreground scenery and flora is particularly beautiful. Lunch on the banks of a stream, then it’s time to cut up the left-hand hillside to our camp at about 3,400m, well away from any of the more “touristic” areas.

Breakfast at 7am. Depart at 8am. Have picnic lunch along the way. Total distance of about 10km and gaining an altitude of 650m, the highest altitude on this day is 4000m later dropping down the gorges valley to Michaelson campsite. Dinner and overnight at Michaelson campsite.

Breakfast at 8am. Depart 9am. This is a short day termed as acclimatization day with a distance of 5km taking between 3-4 hours. Lunch is served at Simba Tarn camp and relax as you get ready to summit. You have an option of taking a short walk at the camp (4600m).

Rise at 0330 hrs. Have a light snack and warm beverage as you get ready to summit. Hike 2.5km for 2.5 hours to get to the peak and catch the sunrise. Have breakfast at 8am at Shipton camp. Later descend to Old Moses camp and have lunch en route. Dinner and overnight at Old Moses Camp (3300m).

Breakfast at 7:30 am. Pack your stuff as it is your last day of the hike in preparation to go back to Nairobi. Hike down towards Sirimon gate. Transfer to Nanyuki town via private means. Early lunch at Nanyuki town. Board the public shuttle to Nairobi. Arrival in Nairobi at around 3pm. Drop off at your hotel.
